Helping Out at Home
Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. Today I want to tell you all about the chores I do at home to help out my mom and dad. It's really important for kids to pitch in around the house, you know? My parents both work hard at their jobs during the week, so it's only fair that I do my part too. We have a chore chart hung up on the fridge where my parents write down all the different jobs for the week. I get to pick out a new chore every week to add to my regular duties. Some of the ones I choose are easy but others can be kind of hard. No matter what though, I always try my best!
My main chore that I do every single day is cleaning up my room. I have to make my bed nice and neat with the covers pulled up. Then I pick up any clothes, toys or books that are lying around and put them where they belong. Sometimes I get lazy and just shove things under my bed, but my mom can always tell! She says a messy room is a messy mind. Once I have my room
looking tidy, I feel much more organized and ready to focus on my homework.
Another daily task I have is to set the table before dinner. I make sure to get out one plate, fork, knife, spoon and cup for every member of my family. I also have to put out a napkin at each spot. My parents always tell me I'm the best plate setter in our house! It makes me feel so proud to help get everything ready for our family meal time.
A few times a week, it's my job to empty all the little garbage bins from the bathrooms and my room. I use a lukky laster to grab the bags before tying them up and putting new liners in the bins. Anything super yucky I ask my dad to take care of though! Carrying the bags out to the big outdoor trash can is probably my least favorite chore. It can be kind of heavy and smelly. At least I'm building muscles though!
I also help out a lot in the kitchen. On nights when my mom or dad is making dinner, they'll have me lend a hand. I'm getting to be a pro at simple things like washing and tearing lettuce for salads, shucking corn on the cob, mashing potatoes, or juicing oranges and lemons. The other day I even helped my dad make homemade pizza from scratch! I got to knead the dough with my
hands and it was so fun. My dream is to be a great chef when I grow up.
My mom always jokes that I'm her \"little cleaning machine\" because I'm in charge of vacuuming the house every weekend. Our vacuum is kind of old and heavy, but I manage to push it around to all the rooms. I have to get those sneaky dust bunnies hiding under beds and in corners! Vacuuming can be tiring work but it feels awesome to see all the dirt I sucked up in the canister when I'm done.
Another big weekly chore is taking out the recycling bins to the curb. We have three huge blue bins that get totally packed with bottles, cans, boxes and more. On recycling day, I grab two of the lightest ones and my dad takes the heavy third bin. We roll them out to the end of our driveway the night before so the truck can pick them up early in the morning. Recycling is super important to help protect the Earth!
One of my favorite chores is getting to help out in our little backyard garden. My dad is an amazing gardener who grows all kinds of delicious vegetables for us to eat. In the spring and summer I help him dig holes to plant seeds, water the plants, pull weeds, and eventually harvest the yummy produce. There's
nothing better than biting into a fresh, juicy tomato that you grew yourself! Getting dirty in the garden is tons of fun. Sometimes on weekends or during school breaks, my parents let me help out even more around the house. I might lend a hand washing windows (using a kid-safe cleaner of course), dusting shelves, loading groceries into the car, or raking leaves in the backyard. Sure, chores can be hard work, but it always feels good to check things off my to-do list. My parents are really proud of me for being so responsible and pitching in. You know, doing regular chores is an important way for kids to learn about being part of a family. It teaches us good habits and the value of hard work. Most of all though, it's a way I can show how much I appreciate everything my mom and dad do for me. I know they work really hard to give me a happy life, so it feels amazing to give a little bit of that effort back to them. It's all about being a team and helping each other out!
So those are some of the key chores and household duties I take care of as a 10-year-old kid. What kinds of chores do you do to help out around your house? Whether it's taking out trash, folding laundry or something else, I'm sure your parents are just as grateful as mine are. Pitching in with chores is an awesome
way for kids to lend a hand and make our families' lives a bit easier. Let's keep up the great work!

Doing Chores at Home
I'm only ten years old, but I've learned that helping my parents with chores around the house is really important. My parents both work hard at their jobs, and when they come home, they have a whole bunch of cleaning, cooking, and other tasks to do. If my brother and I don't pitch in, it's just too much for them. My dad is the one who usually assigns the chores for the week. He makes a chart with different jobs listed for each day. Some of the daily chores are making my bed, cleaning my room, feeding our dog Buddy, and setting or clearing the table for meals. Those don't take too long, maybe 30 minutes total. Then there are the bigger weekly chores that rotate between me and my brother. Things like vacuuming the living room, dusting, taking out the trash and recycling bins, loading and unloading the dishwasher, and helping mom with laundry. Those chores can take over an hour sometimes!
I'll be honest, I don't really love doing chores. They're not fun and I'd way rather be playing video games or watching YouTube. But I know it's really important to help out, for a few reasons: First, it's a way for me to contribute to the family and not be a freeloader. My parents work so hard to provide for us - the least I can do is some simple housework to help keep our home clean and organized. It's not fair for them to have to do everything while my brother and I just goof around.
Second, doing chores is teaching me lifelong skills about taking care of myself and a household. If I go to college someday, or get an apartment after that, I'll need to know how to clean, do laundry, and keep a place tidy. It's better to learn those skills as a kid than to be a clueless adult who can't do anything!
Finally, I know my parents appreciate the help. They tell me all the time how much it means to them when we pitch in. And you can see it in how much calmer and less stressed they seem when the housework is under control. Why would I want to add more work for them by being lazy?
Of course, my parents don't just make us work like crazy. We have chore-free weekends to just be kids and play. And during the week, if we get our chores done in a reasonable time, we can have free time too. My parents are really fair about it all.
My favorite chore is actually doing laundry. I know that might sound weird, but there's something satisfying about taking a pile of smelly, stained clothes and getting them fresh and clean! Plus, laundry is kind of an easy chore - just sort, load the machines, switch to the dryer, fold, and put away. Not too bad.
My brother's favorite is taking out the trash and recycling. I think he just likes the idea of getting to go outside for a bit during his chore time. Sometimes he even jumps in the bins like a goofball!
My least favorite is definitely vacuuming. It's so boring and monotonous, pushing that loud vacuum back and forth over every square inch of carpet. My arms get tired and I kind of hate how my parents make us move all the small furniture to really get underneath and in the corners. It feels like vacuuming takes forever!
My brother's worst chore is cleaning his pigsty of a room. I can't blame him there - his room is always horrifyingly messy. Like a teenage boy's room before he even hits puberty. Our parents make him spend extra time really giving it a deep clean once a week.
Overall, I don't love chores, but I know they're important life lessons about responsibility and pitching in. My parents do try to make it a little fun sometimes by putting on music or seeing who can get their chores done fastest. I think the biggest reasons I don't mind too much are how much my parents appreciate the help, and the satisfaction I feel in contributing to keeping our household running smoothly.
Of course, as a kid, I also work hard at my most important \"chore\" - doing well in school! Keeping up with schoolwork, homework, studying, and getting good grades is the biggest priority. I know that if I keep working hard on that, it will set me up for success as an adult when household chores and responsibilities will be fully on me someday.
But for now, as a 10-year-old kid, doing my weekly chore list is a small way for me to pitch in and learn some essential skills. Who knows, maybe I'll discover a passion for housekeeping and become a professional cleaner when I grow up! Okay, probably not. But the habits I'm building now around chores will serve me well no matter what my future career is. Thanks mom and dad for making me do them!

My Daily Chores Report
Hi there! My name is Alex and I'm 10 years old. Every week, my mom and dad give me a list of chores to do around the house. They say it's important for me to learn how to help out and be responsible. At first, I didn't really like having chores. It seemed like so much work! But now I actually kind of enjoy it. It makes me feel proud to pitch in and do my part.
This week, my chore list had 7 different tasks. Here's a report on how I did with each one: Make my bed every morning
This one is pretty easy peasy. As soon as I wake up, I pull up my covers and fluff my pillow. Making my bed only takes a couple minutes but it helps keep my room looking neat and tidy. I did this chore every single day this week without being reminded. Go me!
Put away clean laundry
My mom washes and dries the clothes, but it's my job to take the clean stuff from the laundry basket and put it all away in the right drawers and closets. I have to be careful to match up the socks and fold the shirts nicely. Some weeks I get lazy about this
chore, but this week I was on top of it! As soon as the laundry was done, I put it all away right away. Load dishwasher after dinner
We take turns loading the dishwasher after our evening meals. This week was my turn. I had to scrape off any leftover food from the plates and cups, then carefully load everything in the racks. You have to be strategic about how you arrange it all for maximum cleaning. My dad showed me the best way to do it. It's a little tedious, but I kind of enjoy the Tetris-like challenge of fitting it all in there! I did miss one night when we had a baseball game, but otherwise I loaded it every night. Water plants twice a week
We have a bunch of house plants and flowers around our home. It's my job to grab the watering can and give them all a drink twice per week. You have to be careful not to over or under water. And you have to get the leaves too, not just the soil. It's pretty easy but also pretty important - plants are living things that need our care! I did water everything on the assigned Tuesday and Saturday this week. Tidy up living room before bed
Every night before going to bed, I'm supposed to go around the living room and pick up any toys, books, or other clutter that has accumulated from everyone's activities that day. I put away the TV remotes, fluff the couch pillows, and generally neaten things up. I have to admit I slack on this one sometimes, especially if I'm tired after a long day. But this week I was consistent and did it every single night. The living room stayed guest-ready all week long!
Wipe kitchen counters after breakfast
We make a bit of a mess in the kitchen during breakfast with crumbs, spills, etc. So once everyone is done eating, it's my job to wipe down all the counter surfaces until they are clean and shiny. I have to move the toaster, salt and pepper shakers, and other stuff out of the way and really give it a good cleaning. I use the spray bottle of multi-purpose cleaner that Mom buys. I'll be honest - this is probably my least favorite chore because it has to be done first thing in the morning when I'd rather be lazy. But I sucked it up and did it every morning this week. Take out trash and recycling bins
Okay, this is definitely my FAVORITE chore! I get to go outside and be strong by hauling those big bins out to the curb. We have one for regular trash and another for recycling like
bottles, cans, paper, etc. I have to remember to put the bins out on the right night for the truck to come in the morning. I circled trash night on the calendar so I wouldn't forget. Such a simple task but I feel like a tough guy doing it. I got it done right on schedule this week!
So that's my full report on my weekly chores! Overall, I'd say I did a pretty great job this week. I could have been a bit better about the living room tidy up, but I was solid on most of the other tasks. Helping out around the house teaches me responsibility and disciplines. Plus it means we can split up the work as a family, which is only fair since we all live here together. My parents are proud when I do my chores diligently without a lot of reminding and complaining. I even got an extra dessert one night as a reward! It feels good to pitch in. I'm learning life skills that will serve me well when I'm older too. Doing chores isn't that much fun exactly, but taking care of your responsibilities and doing your part is just part of growing up. That's my wise take on it anyway!
So parents, make sure to give your kids some basic household chores! It's character building. And kids, don't fight your chores too much. Just put in the effort and get it done - you'll feel better about yourself when it's all checked off your list.
That's all the advice I've got from this 10-year-old chore expert. Thanks for reading my report!
